My Eyes! My Eyes!

Khaysia Starr and I were in the car driving, when all sudden she starts screaming, "My eyes! My eyes! Mommy my eyes!" Frantically, I tried to get her a baby wipe from the diaper bag so she could wipe her eyes. While attempting to drive and navigate through the confusion my mind drifts to recent unfortunate article I read recently. I instantly thought, "Did something happen in the back seat that i am unaware of?"

At last, Khaysia grabs the baby wipe and wipes her face, still exclaiming: "My Eyes".

Being a "cautious" mother, I begin to maneuver my car so I can stop and tend to her needs. But as I glance in the rear view mirror, I notice she is sound asleep. Once we reach our destination a thorough inspection turns up NOTHING wrong with her eyes.

This frantic scenario happens a few more times -- Before Kamal comes home with a much needed revelation. The events on Kamal's trip with Khaysia happened pretty much the same -- but he figured out what was happening. As he carried in our sleepy toddler he tells me, "When Khaysia gets sleepy she is unable to keep her eyes open. She only says "My Eyes" because she can no longer keep them open." Our little Khaysia who wants to control everything gets frustrated as she struggles to control her sleepy eyelids.

Now, when she whimpers "My eyes!" as we are driving, I just tell her to close them.
